How to Make Firefox As Your Default Web Browser

If you are using more than one web browser, then windows needs to know which browser to use by default. If Internet Explorer is your default web browser now and you want to change it to the Firefox then follow the simple steps below.

Make Firefox as the default web browser :

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options.
  2. Select the Advanced panel, then click the General tab, and then click Check Now.
  3. Select Yes to set Firefox as your default browser.

If Firefox still isn’t the default browser, see Setting Firefox as the default browser does not work.

If you are using Mac then follow the steps, Open Safari,then go to Safari –> Preferences and then go to the “General” tab, and on the top you’ll see:

Other browsers have similar settings. And that’s all there is to it.

Note: MSN Messenger and other applications may open Internet Explorer regardless of which browser is the default. Also, Internet service providers like PeoplePC Online, Juno and NetZero may provide connection software that automatically launches Internet Explorer.
