Google is celebrating the International Women’s Day with a special Google Doodle with symbols of women replacing its familiar logo dedicated to the cause.
Today I logged into Google and I saw a very colorful doodle appeared on Google’s homepage, I thought Google started celebrating Holi with doodle, but later I came to know that this Google doodle is for 101th International Women’s Day 2012.
Google Doodle for International Women’s Day
The “G” in Google on the search engine’s homepage has been replaced with the female symbol while one of the “o” has been substituted with a flower. Clicking on the doodle brings up a search results page for International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8, every year. International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911 in four European countries – Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. The United Nations began officially supporting and sponsoring the event since 1975, the year that was designated as International Women’s Year. It is the celebration of women that ranges from culture to culture, remembering women’s achievements socially, economically and politically. While women have made major strides toward equality, recent economic and employment numbers show other there is still a long way to go.
Last year (2011) Google celebrated the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day with a doodle that honors the achievements of women in the last century. You can see the last year’s Google doodle above.
