Apple Launches CarPlay: An iPhone Experience in the Car

As expected, Apple has finally announced CarPlay, a new software that used to connect the iPhone and use the virtual assistant Siri in the vehicle. Apple has announced this product for cars which has been presented at the International Geneva Motor Show.

With this new platform developed by Apple, which was officially presented at the International Motor Show in Geneva , the driver can interact with your iOS device more safely, and will not have to look at all to the smartphone screen.

According to Apple, CarPlay offers iPhone users an “intuitive” way to make phone calls, Apple Maps for navigation, and listen to music through their iTunes account. The interface is similar to that of iOS , the operating system for mobile devices from Apple.

Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant can be used to answer or reject calls, read incoming messages, take dictation, trigger music and podcast playback, and launching apps.

Apple Vice President (Product Marketing) Greg Joswiak said that “CarPlay has been designed from the ground up to provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car”.

The first cars with CarPlay be launched this year in 2014. One of the main drawbacks of the CarPlay is that it is only compatible with Apple devices with the Lightning port, that is, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and 5C.

Major automakers like Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo will premiere CarPlay at the International Motor Show in Geneva this week. Other automakers will also offer CarPlay in their vehicles including BMW Group, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia Motors, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan Motor Company, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota Motor Corp.
